Introduction

1.2 Justification This is a vital part of the proposal as this shows why conducting this research is necessary. This section should include statistics on the area and should be built towards identifying the problem and should show the effects of the identified problem. 1.3 Problem Statement Under this section, the specific problem needs to be identified and written as a statement. The statement may include all ‘why, what, when, who, how’ of the problem.

1.4 Problem Analysis (include cause and effect graph) Under this section, the identified problem should be discussed and also analysed, answering the relevant why, when, what, how, and who questions. Should include in-text citations where necessary.

1.5 Research Questions RESEARCH PROPOSAL WRITING OUTLINE / GUIDELINE 5 Prepared by: Clearly identified, specific questions should be included. These will be derived from the identified problem. You should try your maximum to use only the empirical research articles (try to avoid websites with .com, however, sometimes you may have to use .gov and .edu websites). You should initially extract relevant data from each research. However, then DO NOT write them separately, rather write them under different themes and make it interesting and informative for the reader. You should also discuss a bit about the methodologies used in the research.

Hypothesis(es) Here, the expected possible observations of the research is described. This is not just what the researcher thinks that might be true. These should be supported from the previous research. There are two types of hypotheses – hypotheses and null hypotheses. Commonly used is writing of null hypotheses. The research would then be carried out to prove or disprove the hypotheses/null hypotheses.

3.3 Operationalization of Variables The variables identified needs to be put into operation. This would help in assessing the strength of the tool and whether the objectives could be achieved. This is a table which would include the concept(s), variables, sub-variables, and question type and the number (as per the tool).

3.4 Study Design Mention what methods you are going to use for this particular research (ex: quantitative/qualitative, descriptive/analytical, cross-sectional/longitudinal, etc.).
