FACTS
1. The effects of the Global pandemic have seen world-wide dim-sim production plummet to the point where demand for dim-sims now exceeds total world-wide supply. This has led to a thriving black market in the delicacy.
2. To protect this scarce natural resource, the Australian Government has established the National Executive for the Regulation of Dim-sims (“NERDS”) to enforce the Dim sim Regulation and Management Act, 2020 (Cth) (“DRAMA Act”).
3. The Act requires that any company engaged in dim-sim mining must maintain an Internal Dim-sim Investigation Officer Team (“IDIOT”) staffed by investigators accredited by NERDS. As part of their duties, the IDIOTs must prevent offences from occurring as well as investigating any that do occur. The IDIOTs must also report any breaches of the DRAMA Act to NERDS who may bring a criminal prosecution against persons found offending against the Act.
4. The Mystery Bag Dim-Sim Company is one of the world’s largest miner of dim-sims. Since its establishment in 1949, the company motto has been “Whether steamed or fried, nothing’s better than a dimmy inside.”
5. In addition to producing regular dim-sims, its mine in inner city Melbourne also produces the larger, rarer, and more valuable “North Melbourne” variety; widely regarded as the Rolls Royce of dim-sims.
6. Cletus, Debbie, Sharon, Shane and Bruce all work at the Mystery Bag mine. Cletus, Shane and Bruce work as miners, toiling away deep underground where they prise the dim-sims from a rich vein of dim-sim ore, whilst Sharon and Debbie are tasked with grading and packing and despatching the tasty morsels.
7. For several months, the Mystery Bag IDIOT have been investigating a sophisticated racket where North Melbourne dim-sims have been turning up for sale on the black market. As a result of enquiries conducted to date, the IDIOT suspects that Cletus is somehow involved.
