This is Assignment on using Metocean data for port and harbour applications, based on real ocean-wave data (10-minute time series of accelerations (sampling frequency
5Hz) from the SOFS buoy deployed by the Australian Bureau of Meteorology South of Tasmania).
1. Use the data in Matlab format and Matlab scripts from the ZIP-file ‘PHE_ass_2020’ in Modules/Assessment. Obtain significant wave height by 4 different methods, write down and explain your observations: is Hs the same or different, and why. (5%)

2. Develop your scripts in order to estimate the mean wave period T0 . This is to be done by two different methods: from the time series, and from the spectrum. 
Note that peak wave period and mean wave period are not the same property, and this is not an easy answer. Explain your calculations and their outcomes in the text file, and include the Matlab script which reproduces the results.  

3. Plot the wave spectrum, obtained from the wave data by two different methods, and JONSWAP spectrum with the same T0 as in the exercise above.
Use the text file to compare the spectra and to explain your comparisons. (5%)

4. Presume that the cyclone (storm) is large, and that waves with the same spectrum reache Victorian coast in Australia. Use the wave period of T0 as input to describe transformation of waves in Port Fairy Bay. If additional  information on the harbour or Metocean environment is needed, assume it and clearly state in your report.
