The research context

It is anticipated that tertiary students experience periods of intense stress throughout their degrees, especially around exams and assessment deadlines. Periods of stress can be motivating to help meet deadlines and are considered healthy if they are self-limiting (Dhabhar, 2018). Problems can occur if stress is ongoing and becomes chronic stress or if it is overwhelming and becomes distress (Selye, 1975). Studies have shown that on campus interventions, such as dog therapy, can reduce student stress and improve wellbeing (Ward-Griffin et al., 2018). Therefore, this aims to investigate stress and wellbeing in students in an interprofessional unit at a regional university.

This assessment involves two major stages:

1. Using data analyses to answer the research questions, and;

2. Presenting the findings in a format consistent with a scientific research report.

Information on how to conduct these analyses using SPSS have been provided in tutorials 5 – 9. Report the answers using paragraph format in the Results section of your report

The research questions

1. What is the proportion of students who are experiencing FOMO?

Hint: Answer this question descriptively (i.e. no inferential tests of significance are required)

2. Is the proportion of students who are experiencing FOMO related to age category?

Hint: Use the chi-square test. Include a clustered bar graph to illustrate the relationship.

3. Is there a significant difference in mean stress levels of students who are experiencing FOMO compared with those who are not?

Hint: Use a t-test.

4. Is FOMO correlated with Wellbeing?

Hint: Use total scores of FOMO and total scores of Wellbeing. Include a scatter plot to illustrate the relationship.
