Purpose 

Mandatory reporting of assault is a legal requirement in accordance with the Care Policy, Anglicare Complaints procedures and Respite Service Providers program manual. All reportable incidents will be notified to the Department Health and the NSW Police where required by legislation 

Scope 

This Procedure applies to all Anglicare at Home staff 

What is Reportable 

Accountability and Delegations 

If or when a CHSP Service is associated with a serious event that has, or may have, affected the health, safety and/or wellbeing of clients and/or care recipients under the care of Anglicare staff, volunteers or contractors, the event must be escalated as per Incident Notification Escalation Procedure. 

There are two tiers of incidents which must be reported. First tier reportable incidents are unexpected events that cause: 

• Death or hospitalization of a client while in the care 

• Harm or suspected harm to a client or Anglicare staff member while in the care. 

The second tier of incidents provides an opportunity for the Department of Health to be aware of and monitor management of the incident. Examples of second tier events or incidents are: 

• Criminal activity by staff such as theft or assault 

• Incidents or accidents involving subcontracted services providing a service to an Anglicare client 

• Accidents, including vehicle accidents where Anglicare was transporting the care recipient 

All Anglicare staff have the responsibility to immediately notify the HomeCare Manager if they witness, are alerted to or suspect any of the above. 

Contractors, volunteers, clients and care recipients are actively encouraged to make a report if they see, or suspect, any type of the above or have a concern.
