Leadership is basically the action to lead a group of people that have the common objectives to achieve. There are various styles of leadership and the traits as well that differentiates the characteristics and behaviour of the individual from others CITATION Mar17 \l 2057 (Anderson & Sun, 2017). The leadership is an inbuilt characteristic for everyone which can vary from person to person and hence there are different ways of leading the team or the group. The person idolises someone or any person through which the leadership and the traits come out from them and hence they also act according to those idolised persons CITATION Gin12 \l 2057 (Ligon, Harris, & Hunter, 2012). However, every person does have some strength, some weakness that reflects that if he or she is capable of being a leader or not. These strengths can be the willpower, the sharpness of acting in the weird situation or to tackle the situation which impacts the capability and vision of the individual. The aim of this reflection is to identify the leadership traits present in me and evaluate the same on the basis of person I admire mostly or who influences me most. The reflection will firstly discuss about my profile, personality and skills which are related to my leadership traits, then a brief explanation of my belief, values, strengths and weakness that are a result of my personality, then there will be brief about who I am and how it influences my leadership behaviour or the traits.
I am a person who is mostly involved in enjoyment after completing the works that are required to be done first handily because they are directly or indirectly related to my career. Beliefs and values of an individual are affected by its surrounding because they get influenced by them when they continue to interact with them for a longer period of time. Beliefs are basically those assumptions that we make about the world or the environment that we live in CITATION Ric17 \l 2057 (Herrmann, 2017). My belief about the world is that it should be treated like it has the soul and if someone is hurting the nature, then he or she is hurting his own other who fed them and taught them the rule of life. Being a hospitality and tourism student, I get to now closely about nature, history, and monuments that were built after the sacrifice of millions of humans around the world which itself is a huge burden on humanity and nature itself. The pollution that is caused due to the emission of harmful gases from the industries is also the culprit of the environment. Therefore, my belief is very strong about the world that it should be treated like mother and the inhabitants should also act as the children who care for their mother.
The value that is embedded with my personality is equality, loyalty, conservation of nature and faithfulness because I am true to my words and I also believe in the same thing that I would deliver them these values as well and I expect the same thing from them as well. Values are basically the behaviours and attitudes of an individual from which they are influenced and have the desire to get the same thing from the world (Schwartz, et al., 2012). My value of being honest, faithful and environmentally lean makes my personality Protector and Idealist. The protector personality is the one which is very sensitive about the feelings of the people that are associated with them while, the idealists are those who intend to serve humanity and are loyal to themselves and to others as well CITATION MHC10 \l 2057 (Clark & Schroth, 2010). These value and beliefs identify that I am having ‘‘Servant Leadership Style’’ because I am much sensitive towards the environment and want to save it, at the same time I also care for the human feelings and faithfulness so that their loyalty and faithfulness can be gained. The personality also comes out with certain strengths and weakness that is a natural thing which is always there with the human.
The strength of a person comes from the personality which he or she is carrying with them. The strength of a person is the reflection of belief, ethics and morale of a person that makes them enthusiast of those elements CITATION Kev14 \l 2057 (Bottomley, Burgess, & Fox, 2014). My strength is the principle that I follow, and the principle that I follow is to be loyal with the work, with people and with nature also because these principles help me in bringing self-satisfaction to myself. However, as stated by Boehm, et al., (2015), that the strengths of the people are affected by their upbringing, if they have been brought up by the parents in tough conditions then their strength would be similar to those situations which are in reality inspired of those events, and if they have been provided with a very lavish life then every situation will be tough for them. My strength gives me the courage to stick to my plans and personality which is to help the people and the environment to survive in spite of facing a hard time, and for this I try to influence them to stay loyal and faithful to everyone and even to their work, because this is the only thing which can help them to stay focused and achieve their goals.
My weakness is that I am a staunch believer in protecting mother nature and sometimes it leads to the extreme condition of protecting it. My weakness is inspired by the social factors that I am in, I have been surrounded by animals, trees and mountains in hometown, therefore, it brought up a vision in me that these things are the gift of nature and hence they must be preserved. Weakness makes my personality more rigorous than it should be because when I see someone hurting the emotions of people or nature, I feel as if they are hurting me hence the reaction that comes out is very staunch and makes me aggressive to save the emotions of those who are getting hurt. The personality that I am carrying made me feel more love about nature as in case of Albert Schweitzer he also felt bad for the humans in Africa and hence went far away from his hometown and helped those underprivileged population of the country who were even not getting proper food and water to survive. However, my weakness sometimes hurts the emotions of those against whom I react because they too are human and hence their feelings also get hurt, therefore, I should change my negative or the weakness into positive behaviour which can help the people to understand the mother nature and feelings of individuals as well.
The leadership also require skills that can influence others to go beyond the actions as they are ordered by the authority or by self-motivation because leaders influence others by their own action or cause. As suggested by Amemiya, Monahan, & Cauffman (2017) that, leaders are ideal for those who follow them and hence the follower’s actions are also reflective of their leader’s attribute. My skills of establishing credibility and relationship among the fellow members and the persons to whom I meet helped me in influencing others to interact with others and come forward to help those who are needy. The quality of servant leadership is that it cultivates trust among others and hence spread the message of love and trust in the world. I also have the quality to win the trust of others and help them in a way that compels them to propagate the message of care, not only for human but for nature also. Whereas, according to Gotsis & Grimani (2016) the servant leadership does not influence people in the modern era because it requires lots of efforts and time which is not available for the materialistic modern era people. Therefore, my skills of influencing bothers by the work and trust helped me in developing more form my leadership traits.
Culture and the background play an important role in defying the personality and the traits that are carried by the person because it influences the psychological and physical level of the person. The family background and traditional culture together evolve the leadership trait which has the strong base of teachings and thinking style of the person from the family and the cultureCITATION Bolns \l 2057 (Bolman & Deal, 2017). My family always taught me to help others despite any religion or region because all humans are equal, simultaneously the helped me in understanding the nature and its value that provides us air, food, water and shelter. Also, the area where I belong from is enriched with nature, and that is the reason for being so attached to the environment and nature. My characteristics of seeking opinions from others before doing or acting for some action helped me in developing the character of being a servant leader. Since I believe that leaders are not born, but they are made, therefore, the perspective of leadership is also important to describe to know the way by which an individual reaches the level of leadership.
The perspective of leadership is basically the method of developing and transforming the vision and thinking into an objective, provided that these objective does not create hurdles to others. The leadership perspective as defined by Koskinen & Anna-Maija (2016) is mainly the use of mind and development of thinking to achieve an objective which helps the humanity and environment both. The leadership perspective that helped me in transforming my personality into a servant leader is mainly the love and care of humanity and nature that they should not be hurt by any means as they are our brothers, sisters and parents also. There are three leadership perspective, i.e., left brain leadership, right brain leadership and whole brain leadership. The leadership perspective that I found in myself is the whole brain leadership because I do apply all the effective leadership qualities and skills whenever they are required to be delivered. My education helped me in gaining more information about nature, and its effect when not treated properly deepens my thought of being an effective person who helps other, not for any benefit but for actualisation only.
Ethical, moral and social position in the society and in one’s own mind is also an important factor that develops the thinking of the person because his or her values and ethical position makes them understand what is good and what is bad from their own perspective. Taking the example of a thief, for whom steaking is not bad because the objective of stealing is to feed himself, whereas for rest of the world it is a criminal act be it any objective because they are hurting others sentiments. Similarly, my ethical thinking is to only and only save humanity and help them so that they also can have a better life to live instead of begging for food from those who are involved in corruption and unfaithfulness. My leadership of serving the people made me feel bad for those who are in reality stealing from the population who are much needed for those things than the rich ones. My moral position of not hurting the nature is equally important because I cannot see anyone hurting the mother nature. Because after a few times they themselves cry for pollution and lack of resources. Therefore, my ethical and moral values that were developed due to the teachings and guidance from my parents helped my personality to come out as a servant leader.
In the last, I would conclude that the leadership quality of a person is the reflection of what they think and how they feel about their surroundings. Similarly, my leadership quality of being a servant helped me in developing the sense of helping others and seeking their opinions that make them feel happy and important for me and hence they will act and react in a much better manner. My strength of strong follower of principle which I follow and want others to follow that, however, I do not impose these principles on them because they are also free to live their life according to their thinking, my weakness of being frustrated when seeing others to hurt someone’s emotion and hurting the nature, did not let me evolve my quality up to the fullest. It can also be concluded that my cultural background and skills of having an emotion towards nature and humanity are the reason behind my development of the personality because they are the source which inspired me to care for the world and for nature which also breathes and provides valuable oxygen and resources to survive.
