Scenario:
DKElectronix is a (fictional) medium sized manufacturing company based in the outer suburbs of a large city.
The company has been in existence for twenty years, manufacturing small electrical appliances, such as
hairdryers, toasters, and electric blankets.
DKElectronix has always had a progressive and dynamic management and has managed to stay in business by
being prepared to make changes to the way it operates and to the products it sells.
DKElectronix currently sells its products wholesale to a series of retail outlets that then sell them to the public.
The company has a small IT department, consisting of a manager, two analyst-programmers, a web designer, a
network administrator, database administrator, and two help desk staff.
DKElectronix is facing tough times at present with the cost of small electrical appliances dropping due to the
rise in imports of cheaper stock as a result of a reduction in sales tax. The company is concerned that if it does
not find a way to improve its profitability it may not survive.
Saimma Huzra is the marketing manager of the company and has been floating the idea of introducing some
aspects of e-commerce to try to improve the efficiency of the business.
At a recent board meeting, a decision was made to investigate the possibilities of e-commerce as a way of
improving profitability.
Litoinna Bradshaw, the IT manager, was asked to initiate a project to determine what areas might be involved
and what features of e-commerce might be applicable to the business.
Litoinna allocated the project to Lombu Owens, one of the programmer-analysts at DKElectronix, and he has
spent the last month investigating the problem. However Lombu has unfortunately left the company last
week.
Litoinna has now passed the project over to you, as the other programmer-analyst at the company.

Your tasks:

Task 1: Requirements Document
To complete this task you will need to analyse the documentation you have been given (see Appendix A
below). You will need to examine DKElectronix’s requirements and then create a Requirements Document
containing the following information:
• A table of key requirements, identifying the business areas involved. Evaluate which requirements are
mandatory to the running of the business and which are optional and record this in the table.
• Analyse the impacts of an e-commerce solution on current computer systems used in those areas and
any other systems with interfaces that may need modification.
• Provide a summary of your findings in the document.

Task 2: Feasibility Report For this task you need to identify a possible solutions those meet the needs identified in the Requirement Document (Task 1).

• An evaluation of three possible solutions that you have researched to possibly resolve the business problem should be provided.

• To do this you should outline the advantages and disadvantages of each of your solutions and each possible solution needs to be justified against the business requirements.

• There are 3 area of feasibility study should be address, operational, technical and economical.

• You do not have to do a detailed cost analysis.
