Assignment #1: Self-Reflection – Lessons Learned
This personal reflection assignment has two parts. Part 1 gives you the opportunity to review all the key topics addressed in the course and is due at the end of week two. Part 2 gives you the opportunity to review your Part 1 submission and consider how you are going to apply your new knowledge. Part 2 is due at the end of week eight.

This assignment provides you with an opportunity to demonstrate the development and achievement of the following course learning outcome:
Describe the strategic importance of Human Resource Management (HRM) to organizations and the role that managers/specialist perform in HRM activities.
Part 1
Look at the list of key topics being taught in this course. Select two of them and consider them for answering the following questions. To find the list of topics, check the course outline, or the table of contents in your textbook ? you may have to read the first paragraph or two of each chapter or topic to better understand what it is. Keep in mind that this is not a research paper; it is a reflective analysis.
Identify your two topics of interest. For one of the topics, describe a current strength, while for the other topic outline a current opportunity for development. Why are the two topics you selected important to you and your career development? Have they impacted your career (positively or negatively) to date? If so, how?
What would you like to improve in the two topics selected? What is your plan for doing so? Present your plans as goals (one for each topic). Your goals must be SMART – Specific, Measurable, Actionable, Realistic and Timely. See the Appendix at the end of this assignment for more details on creating SMART goals.
Part 1 should be a maximum of two pages in length, double spaced.
Part 2
Go back to your original submission for Part 1 and reflect on the goals and action plan you identified. Respond to the following questions:
How have your identified strengths and opportunities for development changed from the beginning of this course to now? How have these various factors impacted your career outlook, if at all?
How has your understanding of the various aspects of human resources management changed as a result of your participation in this course? Has this new understanding influenced your goals and career objectives? Explain your answer.
Part 2 should be a maximum of three pages in length, double spaced.
