Obesity is a risk factor for chronic disease such as cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes. Obesity is related to modifiable risk factors including unhealthy diet and lack of physical activity. Social determinants such as education level and family income are also important factors that contribute to increased rates of obesity in vulnerable populations. Community based health promotion interventions are important to address modifiable risk factors and growing rates of obesity in Australia.

Aim:
The aim of this assignment is to develop your knowledge of important community health nursing concepts, including: the social determinants of health; the impact of health problems on vulnerable community groups, and; the implementation of evidence-based health promotion programs/interventions to address priority community health problems. This written assignment addresses all three of the course learning outcomes.

Instructions:
Using scholarly literature, you need to write a 1200 word report in which you:
1. Define obesity and outline the different categories of Body Mass Index (BMI) and how each category relates to the level of risk of chronic disease

2. Discuss the impact of obesity in Australia on morbidity (illness) and mortality (death) in adults, providing recent information/statistics from the Australian Bureau of Statistics and/or Australian Institute for Health and Welfare

3. Explain how education level and family income impact on the risk of obesity, and give relevant Australian examples to illustrate your explanation
