In this module you are required to undertake a health needs assessment (HNA) for a local geographical area of your choice. Through this HNA you will develop a geographical profile, exploring factors which impact upon the health of the people within this area. Whilst exploring the public health data you will identify and justify a target population from within the geographical area, along with THREE areas of need. After prioritising and justifying ONE area of need, you will then identify and justify a community health initiative to address this need. The following four steps provide guidance on what you need to do to complete this assignment. Read this alongside the ‘Assignment Writing Guidelines Framework’ for this module (found on Canvas), which will support you with the content and layout of your work.

STEP 1- Summarise the profile for a local geographical area; exploring factors impacting upon the health of the people living within this area (LO2; LO3) (What factors are impacting most upon the people living in your chosen area)
During sessions 5-11 in your timetable you will be asked to identify a local geographical area you wish to explore; and complete a geographical profile (the Profile Proforma can be found on Canvas). As part of your assignment you need to summarise the information you have found in your geographical profile.

STEP 2- Identify and justify your choice of target population (LO1; LO2) (Which group of people are of most interest to you?
Identify a target population of people based on a human life stage (e.g. parents; foetus; infancy; toddlerhood; childhood; adolescence; adulthood; older adulthood). You need to be able to justify your choice of target population in relation to evidence, including national and local drivers; and life-course approach and early intervention theory.
