The need to use resources more efficiently calls for a change in the traditional development of our current economic model, which dates from the Industrial Revolution. Our model is based on the linear approach of “take, make, consume, dispose”. This model relies on highly available and cheap resources, which, with those resources disappearing quickly, is no longer valid. A “circular economy” keeps the value of products, materials, and resources in the economy for as long as possible and eliminates waste.
Task: Prepare a research paper answering the following research question.
‘What are the overall strategies and tools available for countries to move towards a circular economy?’
It is important to make proper reference to the information gained from various sources. Such sources could include research papers and conference presentations (accessed through Griffith University Library Databases such as ‘Science Direct,’ ‘Scopus’ and ‘Web of Science’), reports and publications from recognised sources (such as World Bank, United Nations Environment Program, Governments) or through google search. Your paper must include recently published resources and include examples of best practices or case studies related to the topic area.
The format of the paper is flexible. However, it should comply with the normal requirements of a paper published in a journal. The rationale behind this assessment item is to assess the student’s ability to research on a given topic in cleaner production and eco-efficiency, ability to cite latest literature and reports on latest developments in this area and to assess the ability to write a research paper to the standards normally required of a journal. Students are strongly encouraged to get familiar with such requirements by referring to paper published in an international scientific journal.
