The Australian College of Neonatal Nurses (ACNN) the peak professional body for neonatal nurses recommends within their published standards that neonatal nurses understand the importance of research in nursing practice. To this end standard 14 asks that the neonatal nurse practices within an evidence-based framework, participate in activities related to the enhancement of neonatal nursing practice and is able to critically review research articles (ACNN 2012).

Purpose:
The purpose of this assessment is to critique current literature relevant to the neonatal assessment of growth and development.
Instructions:

• Explore one topic from theme one and complete a literature review. 
• Select a minimum of five articles about your chosen topic.
• These articles must be sourced from peer-reviewed journals.
• Please do not use published literature reviews in your literature review.
• The articles chosen should be less than five years old (or seminal).

Specific criteria:
Your assessment should be presented as per a literature review in the Student Support Centre

• Include a research question
• Outline your search strategy
• Discuss the research methodologies
• Evaluate your chosen articles
• Discuss the themes that are presented in the literature
• Relate your findings to the assessment of  neonatal growth and/or development.
• Indicate which five articles are the focus of your review and differentiate these from articles which you used to support your discussion.
