The module aims to enable the student to demonstrate competent practice in Adult Nursing as defined by the Nursing and Midwifery Council. On completion of this assessment, students are expected to be able to:

1. Demonstrate the ability to work autonomously in applying relevant theories and principles in more complex care scenarios.

2. Evaluate personal professional values, communication skills and principles of leadership, management and decision making in a range of placements. The summative assessment for NU3670 is a 2500 word (+/- 10%, excluding reference list and any appendices) written assignment which aims to address the module aims. The written assessment will compromise of a reflective account which should be based on the student’s practice learning experiences within their recent Stage 3 PLE1. Students will select one or more Essential Skills Clusters (ESCs) from within: Organisational aspects of care associated with Part 3 of the programme specifically those around leadership, management and decision-making. Students should use an appropriate reflective model to underpin the critical analysis and synthesis of these ESC/s. The account should explicitly make clear how these ESCs might be enhanced and achieved, thus demonstrating continued achievement of the ESC/s. In addition to the reflective account, students will produce a person development plan highlighting TWO aspects of their professional behavior, skills or knowledge for development as they progress to Stage 4 from within the remaining ESCs: Care, Compassion and Communication, Infection prevention and control, nutrition and fluid management and Medicines management associated with Part 3 of the programme. The assessment should be supported with relevant theory, appropriate evidence/research and current policy. Given the nature of the reflective writing there is no minimum number of appropriate references, but all assertions should be supported appropriately.
