Racism and discrimination have caused conflict in society throughout history, particularly in the southern states of America. centres around a young, privileged white woman named Eugenia “Skeeter” Phelan who writes a book about the experiences of African American maids during the Civil Rights Movement in Jackson, Mississippi during the 19605. The film explores the effects of racism and discrimination and the power of the written word fuelled by courage and conviction to challenge injustice.
