TIM is the leading group in Italy and Brazil in the ICT sector. They develop fixed, mobile, and cloud infrastructure and data centres, and offer services and products for communication and entertainment, placing themselves at the forefront of digital technologies.

The Group comprises specialized factories that offer integrated digital solutions for citizens, businesses, and public administrations, also in partnership with groups of primary importance. Noovle is TIM’s cloud company. Olivetti is the digital hub with a focus on the development of solutions for the Internet of Things. Telsy operates in the cybersecurity sector. Sparkle create and provides infrastructure and international services. In Brazil, TIM Brazil is one of the main players in the telecommunications market and leader in 4G coverage. The sector in which TIM operates is characterized by high technological content, in particular technology that has followed an evolutionary path:
 

• 4G – LTE (Long Term Evolution) mobile ultra-broadband network coverage now reaches around 99% of Italians, which is the fourth generation (4G) of mobile phone systems, representing the evolution of the previous 3G/HSPA standard. 4G allows data transmission at speeds of up to 100 megabits per second (Mbit/s) in download and up to 40 Mbit/s in upload. Compared to HSPA, 4G is more than twice as fast in download (42.2 Mbit/s) and more than 8 times faster in upload (5.76 Mbit/s).
   
• 4.5G – launched in December 2017 in Rome, Palermo, and San Remo, and now active in 12 major municipalities such as Milan, Turin, and Naples. This technology increases spectral efficiency, i.e. the transmission speed for the same available frequencies, and gives the possibility to surf the Internet up to the maximum speed of 700 Mbit/s download, with a particularly smooth and stable browsing experience, download a high-definition film in a few minutes, enjoy full HD and 4K video content.
   
• 5G – The first 5G services started in Rome, Turin, and Naples, and then extended to Milan, Bologna, Verona, Florence, Matera, and Bari, 50 industrial districts, 30 tourist destinations and as many projects for large companies, with speeds of up to 2 Gigabits per second. With 5G there is a faster download speed (at least 10 times faster than 4G); lower latency (10 times lower than 4G); higher density of devices managed (up to 10 times); the possibility of simultaneously connecting up to 1 million devices, and sensors per Km2 with very high quality and reliability, thus a great opportunity for the Internet of Things.
