Lesson 1 Persuasive

            The video is about the Aristotelian appeals for ethos, logos, and pathos. According to Sebele-Mpofu and Serpa (2020), Aristotle taught that the ability of a speaker to persuade an audience depends on, or is based on how well the speaker satisfies or appeals to that particular audience in three specific areas – logos, ethos, and pathos. When combined and examined together, these Aristotelian appeals form what is referred to as the rhetorical triangle by later rhetoricians (Sebele-Mpofu & Serpa, 2020). Notably, logos primarily appeals to reason. Having examined these appeals as they relate to the thesis statements formulated earlier, I should modify them to meet a set of relevant guidelines and requirements.

• Learning institutions provides educational materials for low-income learners during summer holidays, thus improving their learning and education prospects throughout the academic year.
• Cyberbullying has been determined to increase stress levels among teens with social media accounts and smartphones, thus causing anxiety, depression, and suicidal thoughts.
• Medicinal marijuana should be legalized given that research shows using it is helpful for army veterans in managing their PTSD.

           The modifications made above on the thesis statements are intended to ascertain the reliability and relevance of the viewpoint they attempt to present on the study of focus. The emphasis on the changes made to the thesis statements does not differentiate or determine whether or not the paper is persuasive or argumentative (Sebele-Mpofu & Serpa, 2020). The focus is to provide a direction for research and convince the reader about a specific aspect of the study. Therefore, the above edits ensure the thesis statements are targeted enough to achieve the intended purpose, and meet the research objectives.
