On Friday 26 March 2021, the Fair Work Act 2009 (FW Act) was amended to change workplace rights and obligations for casual employees. The changes were made by the Fair Work Amendment (Supporting Australia’s Jobs and Economic Recovery) Act 2021 (Amendment Act). 
These changes came into effect on Saturday 27 March 2021. 
These changes will have a huge impact on individuals and businesses alike. The biggest change is the change to the laws governing the casualisation of the workforce. Casuals are disadvantaged in the workforce in some ways; however the advantages of choice of working hours and flexibility are needed by so many. Most students attending study use casualised work to suit their study needs and ensure income during this period. 
Wages for employees is by far the greatest fixed expense a business has. 
 
You are to the company Insurance First (not real company), and determine a recruitment plan for the organisation. This plan should include considerations of person – organisation fit (P-O) not person-job fit. Casual employees, whether through an agency or recruited directly for the most part will be recruited as organisational – job fit as short-term employees.  
 
Your recruitment plan will reflect how you will determine long term recruitment needs and progressive shift from casual to part time and or full-time work. 
 
This will have impact on issues of onboarding, commitment to recruits, probationary period review before commitment, and probably performance management in a semi structured way or not.
