Purpose of assessment
The assessments for this unit have been designed to ensure you are able to competently demonstrate your knowledge and skills for each of the elements, performance criteria, performance evidence, knowledge evidence, foundation skills and assessment conditions of the unit.

Application of the unit
Once competency has been achieved for this unit, you will be able to competently demonstrate skills and knowledge required to provide nursing care to a person with diabetes including assessing needs, planning and implementing complex nursing interventions, evaluating outcomes, and educating the person on his/her condition and available resources.

This includes the ability to:
1. Identify diabetes care services in the Australian health care environment
2. Assess the needs of a person with diabetes
3. Perform complex nursing interventions to assist a person to achieve and maintain optimal diabetes health
4. Evaluate the care plan for a person with diabetes, and support a person’s self-management
