Assignment Task

The purpose of this task is to apply skills of evidenced-based practice to:

1. critically reflect on the quality of evidence,
2. summarise and synthesise information from sources, and
3. identify a gap in the research and formulate a research question to address that gap.

Synthesis of information to develop an answerable research question 

1. Drawing upon all of the peer reviewed empirical research articles chosen in your search, you will conduct a review of the literature, summarising and synthesising the key findings related to your topic.
2. Your brief summary should provide information about the methods, main focus and key findings of each paper, as they relate to your research topic. You should write a short paragraph (2 or 3 sentences at most) about each article.
3. Your synthesis should draw the key findings together, using a determinants framework (or other model) to concisely summarise what is known about your public health topic. This should demonstrate your awareness of the similarities and differences in the findings of the six articles you have reviewed. This part enables you to demonstrate greater sophistication in your understanding. Do not use too many words on the summary at the expense of your synthesis.
4. Based on your review of the literature, document a gap you have identified in the evidence, where further research can advance knowledge related to your topic.
5.  You will formulate a research question based on this gap.
