You have been provided with two (2) references to get you started around your topic. Consider: “What evidence is there that glucosamine is useful for treating articular cartilage damage?” 

1 a) and b) Using the CAARP evaluation checklist provided, critically evaluate the quality of each of these two references. In each case, assess whether the source is reputable and/or of high quality by using any three (3) of the CAARP criteria: Currency, Authority, Accuracy, Relevance, and Purpose 

1c) Give your opinion as to which source is more reputable, providing your reasons. (2 marks; 2 to 4 sentences would be adequate) 

Additional notes for Question 1: 

• You must use three (3) separate criteria when assessing a source. You may use some or all the same criteria to assess both sources (e.g. you could use ‘Authority’ for both sources, if you wish). 

• For each criterion, clearly state which criterion you are addressing e.g. currency. Then write your answer in the space provided on the template.

You will need to find at least two (2) new sources (not provided to you by staff) that support glucosamine being effective in the treatment of articular cartilage damage (FOR). If you wish, you may also use one or both sources provided by staff (you do not have to). 

2a) Write a summary paragraph explaining the case FOR glucosamine being useful for treating articular cartilage damage. 

• You must use correct Vancouver referencing to cite your sources where appropriate in this paragraph. Remember to include these references in your reference list at the end. 

• You must integrate information from your sources to answer this question. Do not simply list what each source says; you are not being asked for an annotated bibliography. 

2b) Choose one (1) of your new FOR sources and use the CAARP evaluation checklist provided to critically evaluate the quality of this reference. Assess whether the source is reputable by using any three (3) of the criteria: Currency, Authority, Accuracy, Relevance, and Purpose. (3 marks; each criterion should require 1 or 2 sentences only)

“What evidence is there that glucosamine is NOT useful for treating articular cartilage damage?” 

You will need to find at least two (2) new sources (not provided to you by staff) that claim glucosamine is not effective in the treatment of articular cartilage damage (AGAINST). If you wish, you may also use one or both sources provided by staff (you do not have to). 

3a) Write a summary paragraph explaining the case AGAINST glucosamine being useful for treating articular cartilage damage.
