Task Description: 

Students are to produce a structured essay which explores inequities in social determinants and the impact they have on the development of inequalities in lifestyle factors (such as smoking or alcohol use) and ultimately health inequalities (i.e., differences in disease rates). Students will do this by focusing on the inequities experienced by Indigenous Australians and the current statistics relating to lifestyle factors and health outcomes in this population group. 
 

Students will be assessed on their ability to:

• Write an introduction providing background information and context on the issue of inequity in social determinants and health inequality in Australia, an outline of the purpose of the essay, and an overview of the arguments presented using evidence from the set text and a peer-reviewed journal article .

• Provide an evidence-based explanation of: o At least TWO inequities in social determinants experienced by Indigenous Australians. o At least TWO inequalities in lifestyle factors experienced within the Indigenous Australian population. o At least TWO health inequalities by Indigenous Australians.

• Write a concluding paragraph which summarises the arguments presented in the essay and a final evidence-based statement on the relationship between the social determinants impacting on Indigenous Australians and health inequalities experienced by the population group.

• The ability to format, reference, and write academically will also be assessed.
