Imagine you work for a consulting firm called FixIt! Pty Ltd. Your company has a reputation for on-time and thorough problem-solving solutions that integrates different evidence sources, namely statistical information with insights from literature and ethical decision-making processes. FixIt! won a contract with NSW government. This contract has two deliverables. A Briefing Pack (assessment 2a) that will be considered by NSW government officials. The format is written responses to the initial questions posed by the NSW government. You will be provided with written feedback on the Briefing Pack. there is no opportunity to meet with NSW govemment officials to present your Briefing Pack, however you may meet with them (your tutor) to further understand the feedback they provide. It is normal for clients and consultants to have such interactions to check progress and possible refine the problem. The next deliverable is a Business Report (assessment 2b), which builds on feedback you have received, and you will also consider additional questions and material. The Case Business Report also has an appendix which is the Fixlt! Career Development tool due after every project to identify career development opportunities for your problem-solving. The reputation of FixIt! depends on the employees’ problem-solving skills, so this appendix is taken seriously. The contract is about the Sydney housing rental market. The overarching issue to be addressed is to: (1) determine the extent of the problem of rental affordability in Sydney (assessment 2a and 2b), and (2) make recommendations about whether the government needs to intervene (assessment 2b). Note: Industry contracts and resulting Business Reports such as these typically run for multiple months, with large research teams.

The purpose of this Case is to provide you with a realistic task you would see as a graduate, plus importantly give you awareness of and experience with applying the problem-solving tools to such tasks. This assessment is worth 80% of your assessment. so requires regular weekly study time to advance the research and analysis needed to write the succinct report. Yet, this case is not expected to be industry standard.
