These include the Canadian Code of Advertising Standards (www.adstandards.ca), the Canadian Marketing Association Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice, as well as the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC). Choose one of the case studies, and then move on both to explicate its ethical dimensions, as well as assess its ethical implications. What are the ethical implications in your chosen case and who, or what is responsible for them? What, if anything, could, or should have been done differently to avoid ethically problematic outcomes for various stakeholders?
8. Examine the ethics of whistleblowing through the lens of the case of Julian Assange (Wikileaks). Explicate the ethical dimensions of this case and assess the ethical implications of the principal actions associated with it. Was Julian Assange ethically in the right to leak sensitive information regarding, inter alia, the U.S. State Department, and Department of Defense? Have the U.S. government and/ or other government agencies (notably, in the United Kingdom and Sweden) handled his case in an ethically appropriate manner? Why or why not?
9. Examine the ethics of whistleblowing through the lens of the case of Jane Akre and Steve Wilson (Fox News and Monsanto). Explicate the ethical dimensions of this case and assess the ethical implications of the principal actions associated with it. Were Jane Akre and Steve Wilson ethically in the right to leak sensitive information regarding Prosilac? Was it unethical of Monsanto to pressure Fox News to kill the story? Did Fox News treat their employees (Akre and Wilson) in an ethically inappropriate way? Did the courts come to the correct decision regarding the case? Explain your answers.
