In Training and Early Career A plethora of research evidence suggests workplace stress and burnout for allied health professionals can have detrimental impacts on the economy, health systems, and the quality of patient care (e.g., Leiter & Maslach, 2005). The prevalence rates of burnout for allied health professionals can range from 25% to 77.7% (e.g., Kaeding et al., 2017; Lapinski & Hassan, 2016; Rupert & Morgan, 2005), with some of the higher reported rates of burnout evident amongst early career health workers (Rupert & Morgan, 2005). Thus, it is paramount for further research to focus on the determinants of burnout amongst allied health professionals both in training and in the early career phase. This will allow for the development of education and prevention methods at both the provisional training level and in professional development opportunities for early career professionals. Collectively, the current modular research project will develop and investigate a conceptual structure of burnout specific to provisional and early career allied health professionals with a focus on factors that promote healthy mental health and protect against burnout and mental ill health (e.g. personal beliefs, coping styles, physical health). According to Geraghty et al. (2010), it is important to focus on developing programs that aim to increase the positive protective factors because they can be as effective at reducing psychopathology as the interventions that target and mitigate risk factors. Example Research Questions:

1. Which positive schemas/personal beliefs will have an inverse relationship with burnout?

2. Which coping mechanisms will have an inverse relationship with burnout?

3. Are there differences in the types of positive schemas/personal beliefs used for participants who report high vs low burnout levels?

4. What are the detrimental effects of burnout on the wellbeing of allied health trainees?
