The assignment is a research essay. 

The assignment deals with a hypothetical scenario based on current events. 

You should consider the hypothetical scenario and answer the specific questions based on your research. 

Hypothetical scenario: 

It is late 2020. Australia is experiencing an epidemic of COVID-19, a contagious virus. The virus has spread widely throughout the community with many thousands infected. The hospital system is overwhelmed and special temporary clinics and hospital wards have been set up to test for symptoms and provide care to people with serious cases. 

Periodically, communities are placed in lockdown which involves the temporary closure of schools, universities, and all businesses in a specific geographical area to lessen the rates of infection in that area. These lockdowns have been moderately successful in slowing the transmission of the virus. 

All large gatherings of people at sporting or entertainment events have been banned until further notice. 

The Australian government has placed travel bans on people travelling into Australia from certain countries that are experiencing particularly high levels of transmission of the virus. The countries subject to these travel bans change as medical information is updated. 

Despite increased government spending aimed at encouraging economic activity, Australia is experiencing an economic recession which has lasted for more than 6 months.

What effect do you think the hypothetical scenario would have on the selected company’s revenues, staffing levels and balance sheet in the short to medium term? 

To fully answer this question, you will need to have a basic understanding of the company and its business. Information about the company is available through the ASX website and on the company’s website as well as other sources.

The following sections of the Corporations Act 2001 (Cth): ss 674, 675, 677 and 678. 

And complete the following: 

a) Briefly explain the continuous disclosure obligations that apply to the company you have selected.

b) Discuss whether it is a requirement that the board of directors approve all announcements made under Listing Rule 3.1.

c) Discuss the types of matters that are likely to arise from the hypothetical scenario that would require an announcement to the ASX.

d) Draft an announcement to the ASX for your company relating to one key issue arising from the hypothetical scenario.
