Kier Group plc is a UK construction, services, and property group active in building and civil engineering, support services, public and private housebuilding, land development and the Private Finance Initiative. Its shares are traded on the London Stock Exchange. Following the collapse of Carillion plc in 2018 there has been extensive public debate regarding the financial management practices of this sector.

You are required to prepare an academic paper, in which you critically analyze and evaluate the financing of a company of a similar size and nature to Kier Group plc. Your paper should be divided into four sections as follows:

1. A discussion of the relative merits of financing a stock exchange quoted company with debt versus equity. This should include consideration of the requirements of both parties to the funding transaction: the company and its investors.   
2. A systematic and critical review of the types/sources of finance that are available to a company of the size and nature of Kier Group plc.                
3. A critical analysis and evaluation of Kier Group’s financing structure during the 5 years leading to its 30th June 2019 financial year-end.               
4. Briefly explain and justify the changes to Kier Group plc’s financing arrangements which you would have recommended had you been a director of or adviser to the company
