Current Trends and new Applications in the Supply Chains around you
A mega-trend or mega-change is when large proportions of society swings over to something different, such as moving away from horses and starting to buy cars. You may notice mega-changes and mega-trends in the supply chains around you (at work or where you shop). If you do not notice these changes then try to meet up with somebody who can tell you more about them. Your assignment is to highlight 3 current mega-trends in any number of supply chain(s) of interest. You need to produce a well written document of approximately 1500 words to describe and discuss these trends. It is recommended that, for each trend, you structure your discussion as follow:
1. Identify the trend,
2. Explain what is happening and how does it work,
3. Discuss the motives behind this change, what are the benefits and why is it happening, and
4. Discuss how do you think will this affect businesses, supply chain management in general and perhaps even alter some of the norms of society over the coming years.

You are welcome to write this assignment in a popular journalistic style (similar to the style followed by Tim Harford in his BBC series on 50 things that changed the modern economy). However, you need to follow the usual academic vigour in referencing. It is likely that not too many journal papers may have been written on these topics and you are welcome to reference other material (such as newspaper articles and web sites), as long as you are confident that the source is credible.
