The first part of this unit will be assessed by a research proposal.

-In discussion with your tutor identify and agree an appropriate title and theme for your research project. The topic you select can be from a list provided by your tutor or one that you have identified. However, in either instance, the parameters should be negotiated and agreed with your tutor. (AC 1.1)

-Select appropriate aims and formulate a question or hypothesis, e.g. what are you trying to find out or justify. Your question or hypothesis needs to demonstrate your understanding in the chosen area and be supported by background reading. (AC 1.2, AC 1.3)

-Produce a completed outline proposal or plan for your project which should identify the key research stages that will be undertaken. (AC 2.1, AC 2.2)

-Construct an intended timetable for your work which should include all of the planning stages, perhaps by preparing a Gantt chart. (AC 2.1, AC 2.2, AC 2.3)

-Describe and justify your chosen methods for research and the sources that you will use. (AC 2.3, AC 3.1)

-Where appropriate, include in-text referencing and a bibliography of your sources using the Harvard referencing system. (AC 3.1)

For the second part of the unit, you are required to prepare a formal report presented to an acceptable standard. The report must be based on the research plan you submitted and had approved by your tutor.

-Present your full report, including your research plan, demonstrating your understanding of integrity and quality, in approximately 2000 – 2500 words (excluding references, bibliography and appendices) (AC 4.1, AC 6.1)

-Outline how validity, reliability and ethical considerations have been considered in your article. This could be completed by referencing / acknowledging sources or including a short paragraph in your methodology. (AC 4.2)

-Aim to collect data using the data collection tool(s) identified in your proposal. (AC 5.1)

-Consider if key stages are being reached according to your intended timetable for the work and if necessary adjust your timetable, perhaps by revising a Gantt chart. (AC 5.1)

-Analyse the data to establish the results obtained and consider the conclusions to be drawn from the work in relation to the aim(s) of the project and the research question or hypothesis being tested. Consider if more data should be gathered, taking into account the finite time available to complete the work. (AC 5.2)
