This will allow you to demonstrate the skills and knowledge required to understand a unit of competency and its requirements, gather evidence relevant to the assessment environment and apply them to the creation of relevant tools for assessment. Your task 
For this assessment, please ensure you understand the following terms and their context: 

  • Candidate: This is you. 
  • Learner: The person/s that you will trial your assessment tools on. 
  • Supervising Assessor: The person who is assessing you in this unit, TAEASS502 Design and develop assessment tools. The supervising assessor must hold the required qualification as outlined in the Standards for Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) 2015.

 
For this assessment task, you are to develop three assessment tools. Each assessment tool must: 

  • address one current unit of competency 
  • reflect a different assessment environment 
  • contain enough assessment instruments to assess an entire unit of competency 
  • must gather evidence using a different method of assessment

Overview 
To complete this assessment you must have: 
3 or more “learners” 
A real or simulated learning environment 

Required learners 
To complete this assessment you must have 3 “learners”. You can have more but 3 is the minimum.  
 
A “learner” is defined as: 

  • real students/learners undertaking study in a workplace or RTO 
  • people from your workplace who are willing to participate as learners in the trialling your assessment tools 
  • any family, friends etc. that are willing to participate as learners in the trialling of your assessment tools 

 
Required learning environment 
To complete this assessment you do not need to have access to a real training and assessment environment. 
You do need a learning environment that is safe and replicates a typical training and assessment environment. This is called a simulated training and assessment environment.  

If a simulated environment is used it must include access to the following to be a correct simulation of a typical training and assessment environment for this assessment: 
texts and tasks typically found in the workplace 
assessment policy and procedures (from your organisation, or use the sample provided in Appendix 1)
evaluation checklist (from your organisation, or use the sample provided in Appendix 2).
