Assignment Task:

Outline: 

A construction procurement problem should be investigated in the form of a case study or optimization study. The economic viability of various solutions should be carefully considered, and local application of new techniques should be carefully taken into account. The planned investigation must be approved and final report submitted. The main finding should be presented to the class as to a professional audience, with good visual aids. Finally a technical report is to be submitted, as from a consultant to a client.

General Aim:- 

• To investigate the procurement techniques or methods used in a variety of engineering and supply chain projects. 

• To inspect local engineering works under construction or procurement of supply chain projects. 

• To develop participation skills in self-education, self-expression, self-discipline and interpersonal relationships. 

Specific Aim:- 

• Construction or Procurement methods employed in some of the topics listed in the attached sheet. 

• Literature search methods in the library. 

• Collection of references for a specific topic. 

• Develop report contents & presentation in general. 

• Format of listing references for a report. 

• Developing report writing skills. 

• Verbal presentation techniques:-.Presentation requirements, composing the presentation, delivery, tips for effective presentation and evaluation of presentations. 

• Preparing for a talk & Tools for effective presentation. 

• Presenting the finding to an audience.

INDIVIDUAL PROJECT REPORTS 

(a) A typed report is due on Wednesday, Week 10. Late penalties are applied if reports are overdue. All information should be collected, arranged in order and written up, photos and drawings added and the whole report checked and mistakes removed. Quality of the report is very important.

(b) The length should be about 2500 words.

(c) Content is more important than length, i.e. results obtained, original thoughts and ideas presented, completeness of conclusions. As much useful information as possible should be obtained from a limited amount of data, and a positive forward-looking approach should be used, pointing towards a possible solution and likely future developments.

(d) The style should be concise, as clear as possible without wasting any words. A technical report is designed to convey information as quickly and clearly as possible. Spelling mistakes should be eliminated in the final report, as they can be very distracting to the reader. The presentation should be as attractive as possible.
