The 3 Medical Radiation Science professions are heavily technology dependent, as new technology is developed at an increasing rate this will also create change in our clinical practice. This change may be a new type of scanning technology, Al driven diagnostic aids, or it may be a new approach to how we interact with our patients. 

The literature review is an opportunity for you to consider what area of Advanced or future practice is of personal interest to you. Identify an area of interest and review the literature, culminating in the submission of a literature review on your topic of interest. A literature review is a structured academic process that involves planning and considered execution. 

A literature review of primary sources, such as peer reviewed journal articles, is not a summary of every article you have read on this topic. Rather, it is an exposition of the existing knowledge and reasoning which leads you to conclude that a particular technology, technique or practice enhances current MRS practice or will advance MRS practice moving into the future. This can include new technology, new techniques or extended practitioner scope of practice. In essence a literature review is a formal tool for evidenced based practice. Writing about the literature is not just part of “what you have to do”, it is essential in developing the critical thinking skills that will become an integral part of your future professional practice. 
 

For this assessment is designed to build on the work you have completed in Assignment 1 & 2, as such you will identify and perform a literature review on a topic of your choice, which is consistent with advanced or future practice of MRS within Australia. Your literature review will: 
 

• Identify the topic, it’s potential role in Australian MRS practice, and develop a research question related to this.

• Discuss any relevant gaps in current MRS practice, why changes would benefit future practice, and the benefit to patients and the healthcare system/MRS practice.

• The review should provide a comparison of the advanced/future practice in relation to current practice.

• The key to a successful literature review is a well-developed research question.
