Task Description: 

The task for Assignment 3 is to prepare your own individual leadership development plan (ILDP) and write a covering report which explains the process you used to build it. This task begins in Week 1 as you start to do self-assessment exercises, learning activities, readings, reflection and the identification of actions to potentially include in your plan. Your material includes a guide on how to bring these actions together to build an ILDP and provides an example of such a plan. You should read this at the start of the course. 

Covering-report structure and guidance 

The covering report is an academic report, incorporating appropriate citations to the literature. It explains the process you used to prepare your ILDP using principles, guidelines, assessment tools and other resources from the course. The contents of the covering report and ILDP will be treated as confidential. You may use the FIRST person in writing the report. 

Please ensure that you use the following report structure:

2. Introduction 

Your introduction should communicate the aim of your covering report, the context in which you have developed your plan (e.g. your current leadership role and aspirations), and your personal vision for developing as a leader (i.e. the type of leader you are striving to become). 

3. Methodology 

• This important section should explain: 
• The process you used to undertake self-assessments of your leadership strengths and weaknesses (e.g. self-assessment exercises, readings). 

The process you used to gather information from a diverse group of people on your leadership strengths and weaknesses (e.g. using assessment tools from the course notes). The process you used to analyse and deeply reflect on this information to identify a developmental vision, build self-awareness, identify leadership strengths and weaknesses, and identify developmental objectives. How you interacted with your supervisor and/or mentor as you built and finalised your plan. 

It is expected that students will make a significant effort to engage in self-assessment activities and reflection, gather feedback from at least five colleagues, and use some of the resources provided in the course notes (e.g. assessment tools that can be used for self-assessment and gathering feedback from colleagues). It is also expected that students will involve their supervisor and/or mentor in the process of building and finalising their plan. 

This section should reflect an in-depth knowledge of the course content and relevant literature. In addition, please include a description of all of the assessment/data collection tools you used (e.g. questionnaires). If these tools are included in the course notes, just cross-reference them. If not, please include the tools as an appendix.
